SOUTH HUTCHINSON ISLAND
BEACH RENOURISHMENT PROJECT

Spring of 2022 ~ The South Hutchinson Island Beach Renourishment Project includes a 3.3 mile stretch of shoreline from Normandy Beach South to the Martin County line.  They were working in front of our Building the first week of May and were done by May 7th.  As you can imagine, it was a huge complex operation and fascinating to watch.  They had two crews working as it was a 24/7 operation and everything went very smoothly.  For those of you who don't know how this works, simply put, they lay pipes from the shoreline into the ocean and connect it to what I refer to as the "sand boat".  The sand boat collects sand from far out into the ocean and then comes in and connects to the pipe.  Sand is then pushed through and spread onto the shoreline.  After the completion of the project, landscapers came and planted approximately 6 to 8 feet of dunes that when grown will provide additional protection.  We also had our first turtle nest last week so I gather our new beach is agreeable to them.  There are many turtle nests up and down the shoreline so the project did not scare them away!!  Below are some still shots and videos taken from my balcony.
